When you think of a brand new BMW vehicle, what items come to mind? A plush interior? Potent and smooth performance? Comfort-oriented features? The latest concept to come out of BMW is something no one saw coming — unless you’ve been watching science fiction movies or heard about BMW’s promise of a holographic control interface at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
It’s called HoloActive Touch technology, and it’s part of the BMW i Inside Future Concept. With HoloActive, the graphics seem to float over the console, and for the auto show, these graphics included buttons to control features. The system sends a vibration to confirm your touch selection. Even a phone call brings up a full color image of the caller. The technology utilizes a console-mounted projector, a camera, and a speaker. The camera is similar to the one used for gesture control in the BMW 7 Series and 5 Series vehicles.
BMW says this concept could be a future form if its current iDrive control system. The brand is dedicated to making it bringing this idea to fruition, and we’re excited to see what the future holds — or what the i Inside Future holds, that is.
You can see the holographic technology in the 2017 CES footage below, and you can learn more about upcoming BMW features from the sales consultants here at BMW of Devon. We encourage you to visit our Main Line showroom to experience the very latest in BMW technology for yourself.
