Get on the Track With the BMW i3 and Erin Crocker

Although not fast enough for our liking, a lineup of BMW i3 EVs are making their way to our dealership. We're quite excited to offer this model to our Devon, PA drivers, and understandably so: this EV marks a new era not just for BMW, but for all-electric driving. Now, the brand has started running promotions on how it rides. Case and point, the recent spot featuring racing champ Erin Crocker, who took the EV out on the track to see how it handled under more intense driving conditions. By her estimations, the i3 held up rather well, and she gives some tips on ways racing and street driving can overlap. Check it out. Have you had a chance to see the new i3 yet? If not, drop on by our new BMW dealership and sign up to test drive one. You won't regret it! In fact, you might just fall in love.

Tom Hardy Pilots a BMW X5 in a new Indie Movie

Here at BMW of Devon we always thought that the 2014 X5 was an exciting car to drive but now those suspicions have been confirmed as we recently learned that a BMW X5 model has gone to the big screen in the latest film directed by Steven Knight. This new movie is called Locke. The entire 85 minute independent film takes place in the car with Hardy at the wheel. It centers around his life as a family man, with a shady past that is coming back to bite him. Check out the trailer here to get a feel for it: Nobody is sure if money changed hands between the production company and our favorite automaker in order to get the X5 in the spotlight. Steven Knight simply commented that the SAV was a natural choice for its ability to hold three cameras and handle the rock terrain of some construction sites. If you get a chance to screen this film, stop into the BMW of Devon showroom to let us know what you thought, then use that opportunity to test drive an X5 of your own. We hope to be seeing you soon.

BMW considers carbon-fiber wheels

With the upcoming arrival of the BMW i8 hybrid sports car, we don't think it's a stretch to call our favorite automaker a trend-setter. It's just one of the many reasons they just keep on impressing us here at BMW of Devon, because while other automakers might be content with following the pack, it invariably seems like they're the ones trying to lead it. And now we've caught wind of what they're bringing to our wheels, our lineup may never be the same. Now, when we say "wheels," we're not using it as a slang term to refer to our models as a whole. We mean the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) wheels that BMW plans to offer on our lineup within the next two years. If you're not a bonafide gearhead like the experts in our car parts department, allow us to elaborate on why we're all so excited. From what we've heard, the new wheels will be either be 100% CFRP or will boast a CFRP rim with alloy spikes. The full-CFRP option will be 35% lighter than forged alloy wheels while the alloy hybrid will be 25% lighter, both of which will make for a noticeable decrease in unsprung rotation weight. If everything comes to fruition, BMW would be the first OEM to offer CFRP wheels on their lineup. And if all goes according to plan, they may also offer carbon fiber steering wheels and propeller shafts. Needless to say, we'll be crossing our fingers. So, until we hear more on the matter, feel free to tide yourself over with a test drive in the 2014 BMW M5 at our dealership here in Devon, PA. Trust us, it helps with the wait.
