2025 BMW iX xDrive50

BMW dawned a new era in late 2021 when the iX debuted. The brand's first all-electric SUV model, the iX gives environmentally conscious BMW fans an alternative to the gas-powered X5. Originally offered in one trim level, the iX xDrive50, the premium M60 trim was added for the 2023 model year.

Despite a nationwide push to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, many drivers are hesitant to plunge into an electronic motorized world. Price and range anxiety remain the top reasons. Electric vehicles are typically more expensive to buy than gas-powered and hybrid ones. There is also concern that small EV battery ranges, coupled with a lack of public charging stations, make long trips unfeasible. However, improvements are being made regarding price and infrastructure.

So, if you are one of the many Americans who love SUVs, the BMW iX - specifically the xDrive50 - has a lot going for it to flip on your EV-buying switch.

1. The BMW iX xDrive50's Price

The base 2025 iX xDrive50 has a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $87,250. The 2025 iX M60 has a $111,500 starting MSRP. That's the same starting MSRP as last year's model.

By comparison, the 2024 Tesla Model X's MSRP ranges between $79,990 and $94,990. The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV's base trim is over $100K. The 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron ranges between MSRPs of $75,595 and $85,995. Keep in mind that MSRPs don't include taxes, tags, title, and the dealer's documentary fee.

It's also important to note that BMW iX xDrive50 offers are trending in the consumer's direction. For example, the 2024 iX xDrive50's lease offer in May 2023 was $999 for 36 months. A month later, that offer was reduced to $929 per month. The July 2023 offer was $799 per month. That's a 20% reduction in just two months. In April 2024, the offer is $749 per month for 36 months with $6,379 due at signing.

2. The BMW iX xDrive50's Range

The 2025 iX xDrive50's 111.5 kilowatt-hour, 369 V lithium-ion battery ranges from 305 to 311 miles. This is an EPA estimate, and only attainable when fully charged under ideal driving conditions. Factors like driving style, traffic conditions, and outside temperatures can impact the range.

BMW Wallbox Level 2 (240V) home chargers can take the iX xDrive50's battery from 0 to 100% in approximately 11 hours. Each iX xDrive50 also comes with a portable charger that can plug into 120V or 240V outlets.

Electrify America, a chain of public EV charging stations, offers iX buyers two years of complimentary 30-minute sessions. Each session adds approximately 200 miles of range. According to Electrify America's website, there are 878 stations in the United States - with another 91 coming soon - as of April 2024.

3. The BMW iX xDrive50's 0-60 Time

According to test results from BMW, the 2025 iX xDrive50 can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds. That is faster than the new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV by over two seconds. It's also faster than the 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron SUV and Sportback. The iX xDrive50's dual all-electric motors can power up to 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. Its top speed is 124 mph.

4. The BMW iX xDrive50 is Not the Same as an X5

Like the BMW X5, the 2025 BMW iX is a luxury SUV that comfortably seats five. But their similarities end there. The iX xDrive50 is all-electric. The X5 is gas-powered, with one plug-in hybrid model (xDrive50e). The X5 is boxier. Its 194.3-inch length is 0.7 inches shorter than the iX XDrive50. But the X5's height is 69.5 inches. The iX xDrive50's height is 67.7 inches.

The iX xDrive50's Starting MSRP is over $20,000 more than the X5's $65,700 entry. However, new iX xDrive50 leases are cheaper because they're expected to depreciate much less than the X5.

5. The Differences Between the BMW iX xDrive50 and M60

The 2025 BMW iX xDrive50 and M60 trim levels have significant differences and similarities. The iX xDrive50's starting MSRP is $24,250 less than the iX M60. The xDrive50 also has a longer EPA-estimated battery range than the M60 (305-311 miles vs 296 miles). The M60 can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds - a half-second faster than the xDrive50. With up to 610 horsepower and 749 lb-ft of torque, the M60 is one of the most powerful electric SUVs on the market.

Some of the standard features in the M60 available as options in the xDrive50 include a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, head-up display, Wi-Fi hotspot, and heated rear seats. BMW's Sport Package also comes standard in the M60. This includes 21" Aero Wheels, Shadowline exterior trim, Shadowline clear taillights, and M Sport Brakes with blue calipers.

The iX xDrive50 and M60 include standard all-wheel drive. They also have the same exterior and interior dimensions, such as 195-inch lengths and five-passenger seating capacities. They also offer the same nine exterior colors, and interior materials. On the outside, they each use dual electric motors, one at each axle, powered by the same battery pack.

New for 2025, both models have eye-tracking technology as part of their hands-free driving assist feature. That allows the driver to initiate a lane change by looking at one of the iX's rear-view mirrors.
