It's only been on the U.S. market for a couple years, but the 2016 BMW X1 is now a fresh-faced, extensively redesigned vehicle. Yes, it still boasts all the markings of a thoroughbred X Series model, but even down to the powertrain, the 2016 model is a whole different animal.
This compact crossover, known in the BMW world as a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), sports a new body for the upcoming model year. It appears less wagon-like thanks to a shorter, taller and wider frame. All of these nips, tucks and stretches make for a much more spacious interior that's tall-passenger- and cargo-friendly. We think Devon, PA area drivers will appreciate the improved visibility that comes with a more elevated ride height. Seating is also exceptionally versatile -- one big reason why drivers choose SAVs -- thanks to power-folding rear seats.
The whole package -- which for U.S. drivers will be the xDrive28i -- will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission with available shift paddles. One of the biggest changes you'll notice is that the X1 is shifting from a rear-wheel-drive system to all-wheel drive. This surefootedness can come paired with an array of advanced safety features, such as lane-departure and forward-collision warning as well as automated parking. The X1 is also designed to keep drivers cool, calm and connected without having to pick up their phones thanks to BMW's ConnectedDrive smartphone app integration system which allows you to tap into social media, internet radio and more via the vehicle's dashboard touchscreen.
We here at BMW of Devon are looking forward to be able to offer the 2016 BMW X1 to drivers from Philadelphia, Main Line Suburbs, Berwyn, Wayne and beyond.
